BK, SG Idol and Dotted Lines

Edit: this post was started yesterday, or rather, in the event i still do not finish it today, it was started on the 27th of September. blogging in office is not really convenient cos of the pple (colleagues) moving ard.......

saw something interesting while on the way to work........and considering the time since the last post, just thought ill pen it down to keep the fingers exercised and those who (still) read this blog entertained.........

not much time before i dive into the pool of work stacked in front of me........so pardon the spelling and any grammar mistakes.......no time to go back to fix 'em..........my punctuation has never been great so im not apologising for that.....

ironically, im typing the disclaimer when i do not have enuf time...........

work has been hectic........i end everyday feeling like Neo in the Matrix after he had swallowed the red (blue?) pill - all aching, tired and covered in slime.......

but after some recent revelations, i have found that it might not be in my best interests to stay in this coy for more than a yr considering the direction that they are embarking on...........

so on to the interesting bit.......

BK has these ads put up all over some of the mrt trains.........they are mostly pictures of their offerings (burgers of course) with a dotted line border........

which leads me to wonder, why the dotted lines?

to me dotted lines have come to signify one thing - tearables. and tearables with fast food = coupons..........is that the message that BK is trying to put forward as well? cheap food? they are arguably good, which would appeal to the "ai pi ai qi" (loosely translated: love cheap love fresh) mentality of most.......

on the morning train rides, there are also several commuters reading the Today paper. not surprising considering the paper is distributed freely at the train stations. one of the headlines was about the crowning of the new sg idol, hady mirza.........

it seems to me that the majority of human kind has this liking for only 2 genres of music - R&B and Rock which has so far, twice been personified in sg by a malay guy and junkie looking chinese guy..........and interestingly enuf, in sg, i remember that it used to be the malays who liked rock better........then again, ill say they seem to do all kinds of music better than the rest of us............

im in no way trying to discuss any form of racial topic here. it is more abt cultural influences. jus stating an observation. but in the history of rock, how many bands/singers were black? and looking at R&B, Hip-Hop, Rap and Soul, how many are white? catch my drift yet pple?

moving back to the whole sg idol thingy, first off, i think the whole sg idol thing is crap. second, this bunch sings crap. third, the first bunch looked crap.

the first sg idol saw seemingly pre-pubescent young boys winning giant big gulps from 7-11. this second one, im guessing, will see the winners having a year's supply of mr softee or slurpee. better slurpee cos i love softee.

it is ridiculous, in my opinion, to be having sg idol. we don't have the market for it. where's taufik, the first idol now? duh. and to prove my point further, the new 1st runner up, jonathan leong, hasnt been offered a singing contract. double duh.

i wonder if they'll ever need to draw dotted lines around posters of the next idols jus to gain publicity.

Finally some time..........

think im coming down with something.........the words fever and flu can be spelt using "work", "work" and "work"

it is nearly 2 mths into my new job but ive yet to see half of those wkends outside of the confines of my office cubicle..........thus my current state of health......or lack of it rather............tho im not complaining...........im quite enjoying it........not that work is fun or im a workaholic, somehow i dun enjoy lazing ard for extended periods of time.......tho i guess the time could be better spent going out with friends, tending to my aquariums, spending time with J, etc but i can only do that much of each before i get bored and start looking for something else to do.............so wat better way than to spend the time catching up on some work.......

so anywayz, wat's been happening..........

im abt to come down with a flu/fever that's already blogged abt above..........sg idol sucks as bad as ever......that's a well known fact already.........ohyes.....

so last friday nite was spent at dbl o with my old clubbing kakis.........i had spent most of the nite tending to a sleeping girlfriend who had a wee bit much to drink.........and again i am reminded of the fact that perhaps it might be time for me to move on to a less energy consuming activity with less pounding music........despite all the fun drinking, dancing and stuff, there's one thing ive grown to dislike abt clubbing - waking up in the mornings with my ears still ringing.........

it was gd fun really........being out with my bunch of kakis on a friday nite quite similar to wat we used to do.......

headache......more 2mrw or something........i need rest..........

The Morning After

a conversation with J the morning after a night out at dbl o.

J: You are a pig.
Me: You are a pig too.
J: No, I am a mermaid.
Me: Mermaids cannot walk or wear nice clothes.
J: They have a nice bikini. Made of seashells.
Me: You think seashells will be comfortable?
J: Put padding. Push up.

more on the past wk's and last night's events later after work.

Huh?

so i was waiting at the mrt station for J last nite, when a guy comes up to me and asks for a cig........to which i answered no and smiled. the guy looked at me and asked, "you don't smoke?"

first of all.........wat? i look like a smoker ar? since when did smokers have a distinguishable look abt them?

second, the guy looked pretty young. in a large t-shirt and basketball shorts..........perhaps underaged? which brings me to my third point......

third, there was one of those little stalls selling magazines and, most importantly, cigarettes at the bus stop 20m away from us. there was a "Cheers" convenience store another 40m away on the other side of the station too......he has not enough money? or he's afraid to buy his own pack?

or maybe perhaps there is a certain look to smokers and after these 2 years, mine hasnt faded.

or maybe the guy jus has this certain perception that pple who stand waiting at the parapet instead of inside the station are smokers.

Kee and Me

so the family met up for breakfast on sunday at tiong bahru market. and on the way, my sis and i had one of our now few loopy exchanges.

Me: You ever notice how many of the food stalls like to have the word "Kee" in their names?
Sis: Yea. They do.
Me: But why? Why must they have it? Does it have any effect on the stall's business or food?
Sis: It's just uniform. Like "Swee Kee", "Ho Kee", "Old Chang Kee" or "Loy Kee".
Me: It doesn't make sense. Why "Kee"?
Sis: The Chinese are just unimaginative lah.
Me: Unimaginative? We have hundreds of years of heritage and a vocabulary of possibly thousands of words and this is the best we can come up with? That's quite sad.

again, i stress the nature of the conversation - loopy.

i dun really care if there is a "Kee" or no "Kee" in the names of the stalls selling my favourite foods. heck, as long as it fills my stomach and makes my taste buds tingle it's cool.

and the entry on Chinese Language in wiki......
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_language

915 million speakers around the world and "Kee" is the best we can come up with?!

The Devil and Cheese

it's been another wk.......the hours seem to jus crawl at times but more often than not, i still find myself asking where did all of it disappear to so quickly everytime i stop to take stock of things.........

the wk has been rather hectic.......got lots of work to do now, mainly cos ive had the tasks assigned to me balloon out of proportion due to changes in the project........tho the hours dun seem to be stretching to a ridiculous extent, it is still enuff to rob me of a few hours of down time each day..........

need to head back to office to pull some extra hours 2mrw or the next wk is gonna be bad.......

was trying to think of some light hearted stuff to post.........but, my eyes are nearly closing so im jus gonna post wat has been foremost on my mind lately.........

went down to the new cathay cineplex to catch "The Devil Wears Prada" last evening.......i found the show pretty good, obviously since ive bothered to put proper punctuation............enough laughs and lotsa eye candy for both sexes........

the one thing that i felt made the show deserving of a full 5/5 rating is an important lesson that altho has been depicted countless of times in other less spectacular movies, is something that ive fully understood and able to fully relate to only recently - it has something to do wif cheese..........

more later........but for those that have read the book "Who Moved My Cheese?" and watched this movie will realise what i mean........

this devil needs his beauty sleep now or else no amount of prada is gonna keep him looking his best........

question: they do have prada for men rite?
