Kee and Me

so the family met up for breakfast on sunday at tiong bahru market. and on the way, my sis and i had one of our now few loopy exchanges.

Me: You ever notice how many of the food stalls like to have the word "Kee" in their names?
Sis: Yea. They do.
Me: But why? Why must they have it? Does it have any effect on the stall's business or food?
Sis: It's just uniform. Like "Swee Kee", "Ho Kee", "Old Chang Kee" or "Loy Kee".
Me: It doesn't make sense. Why "Kee"?
Sis: The Chinese are just unimaginative lah.
Me: Unimaginative? We have hundreds of years of heritage and a vocabulary of possibly thousands of words and this is the best we can come up with? That's quite sad.

again, i stress the nature of the conversation - loopy.

i dun really care if there is a "Kee" or no "Kee" in the names of the stalls selling my favourite foods. heck, as long as it fills my stomach and makes my taste buds tingle it's cool.

and the entry on Chinese Language in wiki......
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_language

915 million speakers around the world and "Kee" is the best we can come up with?!
