Kiddie TeeVee

im thinking of growing a goatee and moustache (or mustache as Firefox likes it better). i think i might look good with one. contemplated on leaving this morning's stubble while i was shaving before i decided it might be better if i left the idea till after i start on my new job. incidentally that would be the beginning of next wk.

i did notice a small bald patch in on my chin that did not seem to have any hair growing out of it. dunno how that will turn out if i do eventually decide to leave a goatee.

on to more important things, has any1 watched kids central recently? im amazed at how the channel has evolved. the variety of programmes they have for kids is really mind boggling. all i ever remember watching as a kid were the cartoons that run from 6pm to 7pm everyday on channel 5 equating to just 2 each day. and those 2 ran in serials which meant you watched Silverhawks and Mask everyday for maybe a few weeks before it changes to perhaps Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the next few weeks. kids really have got it lucky now. they have a whole bloody channel for them. of course i do wonder abt the need for an off-colour talking dino and a gay sponge as kiddie teevee fodder.

the topic of appropriate content brings me to the whole point of my post. i do think that some stuff shld not be shown on kiddie channels in order not to cultivate the wrong values and ideas in the minds of our country's young. an example would be the airing of kids doing the mambo, cha cha and other very suggestive dance routines.

was doing some channel surfing the other weekend morning when i happened to chance upon a particular segment on kids central that showcased the talents of children in the age range of 5-12. this would seem like a pretty harmless and seemingly innocent programme. after all, wat can a 5-12 yr old do?

not so as i learned. the pair of kids, roughly 9-10yrs of age, were in full (or rather, lacking) ballroom latin dance costume doing a one of their very well-rehearsed dance routines.

kids shldn't be able to move their hips that way~! ok, so they obviously can, but they shldn't be allowed to do it until they turn 80~! dun forget the costumes. my god, if i had a daughter or younger sister wearing that little clothing, ill probably force her into a nunnery and make her resign to a fate of celibacy.

buddhist nunnery. not christian or catholic cos being bald will ward off potential suitors as well.

unfortunately, not all share the same view as i do. J thought that the kids were cute in their outfits when i was ranting to her over the phone during the kids' routine. a colleague of mine thought it was alright and thought they were cute too when i told her abt it.

call me an old fashioned fart, but i dun think it is appropriate. dancing is fine. but not dances that involve the need to swivel and gyrate hips in a manner whose meaning is totally incomprehensible to beings that have not been taught abt the birds and the bees. they could learn the waltz or foxtrot or hop-scotch if they wanted to. that would be so much better.

give them their off-colour talking dino, gay sponge and supposedly satanic followers with tvs in their bellies. ill much rather they have that.
